"A brilliant introduction to this scary monster, also known as programming, and how to tame it."
Parametric tools such as Grasshopper and scripting of FE analysis packages have given engineers the opportunity to “look under the hood” of software to automate its functionality and send data between different packages. This is enabling engineers to work faster and more creatively.
A recent issue of the Structural Engineer highlighted the challenge of “coping with today's technology” and warned of the “danger of the black box mentality”. Past IStructE President Tim Ibell stated that we are “far behind where we need to be to launch our profession into the digital age”.
We have developed a course to help engineers seize this opportunity and address these concerns. The course focuses on Rhino + Grasshopper, the C# programming language and how to link to various analysis packages. These tools are commonly used by top architecture practices - effective collaboration will increasingly rely on this knowledge.
The course will be enjoyable, practical and immediately applicable to projects. The course is suitable for all levels of engineer from graduate to director.
