An informal celebration of the work of the bicycle designer Mike Burrows (1943 - 2022)

Mike Burrows did his first ever public talk for the Engineering Club back in 1992. As documented in his book 'Bicycle Design', it was planned as a quiet chat about his ideas for the monocoque hull but in the interim Chris Boardman won an Olympic gold medal on what became known as the 'Lotus bike' and then everybody wanted to hear from this outspoken friendly engineering genius based in a little workshop in Norfolk. After that he gave another 5 talks over the years on many different aspects of bicycle design - from suspension to recumbents - always probing our assumptions about good engineering design.

The gathering is an opportunity for engineers and bicycle enthusiasts to salute Mike with an appropriate libation, share stories and tributes and will include a showing of the video Laid-back Revolutionary that the Engineering Club made with Mike in 2017 to mark the 200th anniversary of the invention of the bicycle.
