COWI is a Danish engineering firm which works on an international scale. One of their specialist fields is long span bridges and they are responsible for some of the longest and most iconic structures in the world. They are also responsible for pioneering a number of new techniques in suspension bridge design. The Norwegian fjords present a particularly difficult barrier for bridges to span as they are both wide and deep. But using techniques pioneered in the oil rig industry new ways have been developed to span these features.
